My debit card expired a several weeks ago. It sort of snuck on my and happened over the weekend. But first thing Monday I logged on to my online banking and requested a new one. Two weeks later I had nothing show up in the mail and upon investigation, I discovered that somehow one was issued but was returned to the bank so now I have visit my local branch to get it. Well that’s fine and dandy if I have the time to drive to Kalamazoo to get it done. I’ll get that sorted out eventually, but in the meantime, I decided it was high time to actually open a bank account down here. Today on my lunch break I went to the bank and realized I forgot my social security card. So I went home, got the card, went back to the bank only to be denied because of an as-of-yet unpaid balance on a closed account at Independent bank in Potterville. An account I closed three years ago. So I called that bank and had a little difficulty on account of them confusing myself and my dad. But once that was cleared up, I was told I wasn’t even in their system so they had no idea what this was about. The nice lady on the phone took my number and promised to look into it. She just called back a few minutes ago and said that when I closed my account I had owed them money, but yes I had in fact paid it. Unfortunately they never informed whoever it was that they should have informed that I had paid it. So for the past three or so years, it’s been out there that I owed this bank money. (no telling what that did to my credit rating.) So now I wait a few days for things to get through the system and I’ll try again to open a new account down here. If it still isn’t cleared up, the Independent Bank lady did promise they would fax whatever they needed to, to my new bank down here. Here’s hoping that the third time really is the charm.
