Well here goes. I am being promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. I currently am a Senior Airman. This promotion is the most significant one I have had because it is the first one in which I had to take tests and have a review of my evaluations and decorations to recieve. Also I will no longer be just in the Airman ranks (Airman Basic E-1, Airman E-2, Airman first class E-3, Senior Airman E-4)
I will be an NCO or non commisioned officer. Not to be confused with a commisioned Officer. Commisioned officer's are a completly seperate rank structure apart from the enlisted ranks which I am from. This is the stage where I really am in charge of people and begin to manage more than do the actual work. This was also significant in that it was my first time testing. not everyone makes it on their first time and some it takes many times. I was the only one to make it in my shop where there were 5 people eligible. Only one other person was testing for their first time. The way you actually get it is based on a cut-off score. Some people in my shop missed the cut-off by just a few points. (this is me bragging) I thought then that I had probably only made it by a few points but actually I was over by 19.5 points. Which is a lot by the way. There is probably much more that I could explain but it will not take effect for several months anyway they promoted a total of about 13000 Air Force wide and because it was my first time testing I got # 10227. They usually release about 1100 per month so I will not sew on my next stripe until my # is called someime next spring or summer. The point is though that I made it.
