You live in the country

You live in the country but you do not speak the language.

I like old school country singers like Hank Williams, Kenny Rogers, Dwight Yokem, and especially Johnny Cash. There are newer country songs that I like but for the most part I find myself attracted to the twang and drawl that comes from the older guys. Right now I'm reading "Cash" by Johnny Cash and he has a section where he talks about the differences in country music between his generation and mine. A difference that stems from growing up a poor cotton farmer in Arkansas and living a life that creates a certain type of music, not the other way around. Now I'm not saying today’s country is bad and I don't mean to belittle it in any way, but the more I think about that the more I can feel the difference while listening to music. That’s not just limited to country music either. There's something about pop music right now that rubs me the wrong way. Music just doesn't seem to have the soul it used to. It's all about making money and getting on Mtv nowadays. I could continue this thought-turned-rant for pages so I'll just go ahead and end it here.
