What kind of a host

What kind of a host invites you to his house for the weekend and dies on you?

What a great weekend. Friday night I went to see a movie with the Kalamazoo Crew then we cruised over to the Green Top for a drink before I went home to sleep. Saturday I cleaned my room, the kitchen and the bathroom all really good. Then I watched two and a quarter Humphrey Bogart movies before going to Jen's house for an evening of hanging out and playing cards. Sunday Casey and Amelia came down to visit me and we spent the day tooling around Kalamazoo. Now it's back to the grind.

I'm having a shitty day.

I'm having a shitty day. I'm depressed. Tell me a funny joke.

I have two jobs. Granted one doesn't take much time but it's still a job that brings in a little extra cash. Back to my point I have two jobs, I get a lot of support from my parents, and I'm just barely making ends meet. After hemming and hawing for a few weeks I finally decided to buy a new pair of shoes. The everyday shoes I've been wearing were giving my heels blisters because my ferret chewed out the lining. Anyway I didn't want to spend money on something like shoes, but for the sake of my feet, I did. Last night I did a load of laundry and discovered, while putting it in the dryer, that my cell phone had been in my pants pocket. I let it dry all night and morning but it still doesn't seem to be working. So now if I want to be able to communicate with my friends, parents, work, my editor, and the rest of the world I'm going to have to buy another phone. I would have kept my blister-giving shoes if I'd have known this was going to happen. So cheer my up with a funny joke.

It's fine Scottish weather we're

It's fine Scottish weather we're having. The rain is falling straight down and kind of to the side like.

Three things worth mentioning today. The first being I walked across campus today in the pouring rain only to discover that my keys had fallen out of my pocket in the last building I was in. So I had to walk back across campus to that building, then back again to my car. By the time I got home I was soaking wet. At least it wasn’t a cold rain.

The Second, I heard on NPR today that a group of people are trying to work with Linux to create a completely open source Iraq, so that the fledgling country is in no way dependant on Microsoft. I'm not sure what to think about that yet, I need to hear more about it.

Thirdly, there is a new Strongbad Email today! As an added bonus, it's a good one.

So it was a good

So it was a good movie. It wasn't a great movie, but how often do you see a great movie?

You really don't see too many great movies, but I saw something that was pretty close last night. Though the title appears as Natural Selection, I assure you that this is the same movie I watched last night, Monster Hunter. I put it in at 11:30 thinking I would fall asleep watching it, but it was just too good to close my eyes. Very strange, very wild, very... different. Unfortunately there is a little bad acting in it, but there is also some excellent acting and a whole slew of quirky characters to laugh at. I also watched Full Time Killer, which was a lot like that 1995 Stallone movie, Assassins. But this one is better on many levels… if you don’t mind subtitles.

The best programmer Encom ever

The best programmer Encom ever had, and he ends up playing Space Cowboy in some back room.

Tron, in my opinion one of the great moments of groundbreaking cinemagraphic history. Though nothing like today's special effects Tron was, at the time, something quite spectacular to see. I still think it is. I know not many of you guys have seen the movie but I found this game today and it's almost exactly like one of the games the programs play in Tron.

You live in the country

You live in the country but you do not speak the language.

I like old school country singers like Hank Williams, Kenny Rogers, Dwight Yokem, and especially Johnny Cash. There are newer country songs that I like but for the most part I find myself attracted to the twang and drawl that comes from the older guys. Right now I'm reading "Cash" by Johnny Cash and he has a section where he talks about the differences in country music between his generation and mine. A difference that stems from growing up a poor cotton farmer in Arkansas and living a life that creates a certain type of music, not the other way around. Now I'm not saying today’s country is bad and I don't mean to belittle it in any way, but the more I think about that the more I can feel the difference while listening to music. That’s not just limited to country music either. There's something about pop music right now that rubs me the wrong way. Music just doesn't seem to have the soul it used to. It's all about making money and getting on Mtv nowadays. I could continue this thought-turned-rant for pages so I'll just go ahead and end it here.

Bring my screwdriver and my

Bring my screwdriver and my special CD of town-saving music.

Wednesdays are swag days here in the Zoo; usually spent with a bottle or two of wine, some fine cheese, and a few friends. Last Wednesday we listened while sitting on the front porch of my house-to-be. I like Wednesdays.

Beautiful beach, a sunny day

Beautiful beach, a sunny day and good friends. What more can a man ask for?

Yesterday, while at work, Barefoot Warrior, called me and asked if I wanted to go to the beach. I think I suprised him when I said yes. So we packed up some raw meat and beer grabbed a couple of friends from Grand Rapids and drove out to Grand Haven. I couldn't believe how warm Lake Michigan felt already. We swam for a good 45 minutes or so then had a huge BBQ. Too much food later we watched the sunset. What a great day!

Love it? You're gonna like

Love it? You're gonna like it!

Thought I would try out a new look. What do you think?

Update
I accidentally deleated a few comments. Barefoot Warrior said he was suprised he liked the new look and Sarah said she liked it but always had a problem with the left side of the screen to which I replied I knew that some people did but I didn't like the look of a second scroll bar but now it shouldn't matter if because you if can see the words, "Woody Allen" you should be able to see everything from now on.

No, your job is to

No, your job is to rate movies on a scale from "good" to "excellent".

Not five minutes ago I checked my voicemail and found a message from my editor; this weeks assignment is to do a review of the new Harry Potter movie. If I come home this weekend is there any interest out there for going to see it with me?

Also here are a few pages I've found in the past couple of days that need to be shared.
Poke The Bunny
Penguin Chat   (Better if more than one person does it at a time)
Stuffed Germs

We got food, we got

We got food, we got beer, we have zero percent adult supervision... welcome to Camp Naughty Bad Fun.

I came home this weekend with sun burn, blood stained, black powder covered hands, a few small cuts, and sore feet from marching in moccasins. All signs of a great weekend, full of beer drinking, gun shooting, knife throwing, hog roasting, tomahawk chopping good times. I even managed to post the pics.

To steal an idea from Fark and try to get away from trivia type questions, for 10 points take a picture out of the Mackinaw 04 folder and Photoshop it. Email the picture to iwantpoints@johnnyrockstar.net and at the end of the week I'll post the winner. If you don't have Photoshop, I'm sure you can download a reasonable substitute from someplace.
